Richard Garfield - Chief Coach

Richard is a Level 4 ASA Coach and has been Chief Coach of Guildford City since 1998. He has been developing national & international swimmers for over twenty years & has been a member of the Great Britain Junior and the Great Britain World Class Coaching Teams. He is currently Chief Coach of the South East England Talent Identification Level 1 Group, Representative of Surrey ASA on the South East England Senior Coaches Forum and is the Head Coach of the University of Surrey Swim Squad.

Steve Wadey - Head of Age Groups & National Age Group Squad 

Steve Wadey is a qualified ASA Level 4 Coach and has been instrumental in Guildford City’s development since 1998. Steve is lead coach for the National Age Group Squad and additionally is Head of Age Groups where he has responsibility for the delivery of training to all age group squads throughout the Club. Steve has helped develop countless National qualifiers and numerous National medallists. He was part of the World Class Start Coaching Team and competed  himself at National level.

Lee Spindlow - Assistant Coach - National Age Group Squad  

Lee has a BSc Sport Science & Physical Education (HONS) degree & in late 2010 will be starting a Masters in Sports Performance focusing on periodisation, sports nutrition, psychology and biomechanics. Lee is a UKCC Level 3 coach, having also completed the ASA Club Coach, Level 2 Gym Instruction & Sports Nutrition.                                    

Dan Cross - Regional Squad 

Dan has a Degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Worcester University and is an ASA qualified Level 2 swimming coach who is currently taking the level 3 course. Dan has coached at Winchester Penguins, Worcester City Swimming Club, Worcester University, Epsom and District swimming club and most recently has been the assistant to the National Age Group squad at Guildford City. In his own swimming career Dan  swam at National level as well as being a county and regional medallist. He was a member of Winchester Penguins for the majority of his swimming career and later trained with Portsmouth Northsea before going to university where he was the Captain of the University of Worcester swim team before taking over as coach in his final year of university.

Sally Williamson - County Squad 

Sally Williamson is a Qualified ASA Level 2 teacher and has been involved in coaching competitive swimming since 1989 firstly at Woking Swimming Club and since 2004 with Guildford City as the Lead Coach for County Squad. Sally’s specialty is developing 8-10 year olds from a teaching environment to being coached to compete successfully at County and Regional level. In every year since 2000, her swimmers have consistently placed in the top 3 for Surrey County Championship BAGCAT Awards and in 2009 the top three 9 year old girls in Surrey were all members of Guildford City’s County Squad

Vicky Preece - Sharks

Vicky has been with Guildford City Swimming Club for 6 years and has worked with every squad from Tadpoles to National Youth. She holds the ASA Level 1 Swimming Teacher and Coach qualification, and is currently working towards ASA Level 2 Coaching qualification. Vicky was a member of the Czechoslovakia National Team

Mike Duplessis - Coaching Assistant 

Mike is an ASA Level 2 Teacher/Coach and assists with the younger swimmers in the High Performance Squads. Mike was an age group swimmer at Braintree & Bocking SC & Woking SC. After many long hours on the 'balcony', Mike volunteered to get involved on poolside and can thoroughly recommend it to any parent (with or without swimming experience) who want to make better use of their time at the pool

Competitive Development Squads

Jonathan Brayne - Head of Competitve Developement Squads & Masters

Jonathan is currently working towards completing UKCC Level 3 and already holds UKCC Level 2 in both Teaching & Coaching. Having started swimming competively at 8 years old, he has been involved in the sport for over 20 years. Jonathan joined Guildford City from Wey Valley Swimming Club  where he was Head Coach & in his time in that position was able to help with the expension of the competitive development squad, leading to raised levels of competition and Wey Valley enjoying the highest ever levels of county qualifing times in their history.

  Academy

Sue Barney - Head of Academy 

Sue has been Head of the Academy at Guildford City Swimming Club since 2005. In that time she has seen the Academy grow from 20 young swimmers to over 200 members. Sue holds the level 2 ASA Teachers Qualification and has over 17 years of experience in teaching young swimmers. Her skill & enthusiastic approach has helped establish the Academy as one of the best swimming schools in the South East of England and has given her young swimmers the grounding to graduate to become County, Regional & even National Champions during their swimming career at Guildford City
